
Canada born model-turned-actor Lisa ray has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer Multiple Myeloma according to an entry on her wordpress blog posted recently. The model, born to a Bengali father and a Polish mother was diagnosed as being inflicted with the early stages of this deadly disease which affects the white blood cells on the 23rd of June this year. Lisa had decided to undergo a thorough medical examination when she had begun to experience severe symptoms of fatigue and exhaustion in the past few months. According to an entry posted on her blog recently, she has stated,
'I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on June 23rd and started my treatment on July 2nd…not long ago. For me, it was a relief to hear what was wrong. The plasma cells in my bone marrow were rampaging, multiplying, squeezing out the red blood cells and it was time to begin doing something about it. You just know when something is kosher with your body.'
In the event of this sudden heart-wrenching news confronting Lisa in the face unexpectedly, the actor shows immense courage in stating that will not let the disease upset her life and that she will carry on with her normal routine as usual. She has also insisted that she believes that the disease is curable. She states further on her blog,
'When I got the news, I didn’t react and didn’t cry. I am an actress, believe me, I can be dramatic. I believe it can be cured. That’s the dirty realist in me.'
Having been inflicted with his rare form of disease she is, however upset about the fact that most people do not know what the symptoms of this disease are in order to facilitate the early diagnosis of the disease. She has thus, vowed to step up efforts to increase awareness on this form of cancer.
Lisa ray had started off her modeling career in the mainstream with the Bombay dyeing towel ads. She had then been a part of many ad campaigns before getting her second major break from garden Sarees, the television advertisements of which she still graces. Lisa has also won critical appreciation and acclaim for her performance of a young widow in Deepa Mehta’s Oscar-nominated production ‘Water’ Lisa has also voted as the most beautiful woman on this planet on account of her mixed breed looks.
The sad news of cancer having inflicted Lisa, has taken many of her fans, however by surprise. Good news, however, for Lisa and her fans is that the disease is curable in the initial stages of the malignancy. The dirty realist in Lisa might just be right!
