Rani Mukherjee is the latest female bollywood actor to have joined the size zero race. The actress, who is often pitted against kajol, Vidya Balan and Sameer reddy to have the worst figure in Bollywood courtesy the stocked flab all over her body, had embarked on a fitness regime replete with yoga and diet cuts to get into a two piece swimsuit bikini for a sequence in her lately released flick ‘Dil bole Hadippa’. The fitness trainer, Payal, admits she was intimidated by Rani’s fitness history but soon found the courage to direct her on her fitness programme when Rani urged her and pledged her commitment to the weight loss assignment.

Rani can now do upto 100 surya Namaskars in one day when she couldn’t cross 10 at the start of the routine. The results are here to see!

Aladdin- India’s biggest visual extravaganza

India is all set to receive it’s very first intensive VFX film- Aladdin, based on the popular fairy tale, with none other than the Big B playing the role of the adorable Genie- called ‘Genius, the Genie’ in the movie. A modern adaptation of the classic children’s fairytale, the movie revolves around the life of a boy with the title namesake ‘Aladdin’ who is teased for having a name inspired from a fiction tale. Aladdin, played by Ritesh Deshmukh in the movie, however, chances upon a stroke of luck one day and finds a magic lamp that leads him to genius and his uneventful life changes forever.

And when there is a hero and a Hindi movie script, there ought to be a heroine and a villain somewhere. The lead female actor’s role Jasmine is played by debutante Sri lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandes. And the villain is being played by none other the bollywood’s bad boy- Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay Dutt plays a ring master in the movie who wishes to steals the lamp from Aladdin so as to regain his lost powers once again.

Eros brings to India, what is pitted to be Bollywood’s biggest visual extravaganza, with an unprecedented quality and magnitude of special effects in the movie. If you thought, Krissh was something to hold out for, the producers and the crew insist, wait till you watch Aladdin.

Kareena kapoor and Saif come together in Qurbaan

Kareena kapoor and beau Saif Ali Khan will come together after Tashan once again in forthcoming flick Qurbaan. Marking Rensil D Silva’s directorial debut, the film revolves around the tragic episode of 9/11 in New York and how the lives of people around the incident changed. Answering questions on whether there were similarities between Qurbaan and recently released film New York, starring John Abe, Katrina Kaif and Neil Nitin Mukesh, the director replied,

I saw “New York”. The two films are similar but I did not re-shoot my film. The two films have a different interpretation of the theme (of terrorism). While “New York” is about the aftermath of 9/11, the characters in “Qurbaan” have moved on. According to me, 9/11 is no more the clinching point of global terrorism. Look at what is happening to Pakistan vis-à-vis the Taliban. Global terrorism has gone much beyond 9/11. “Qurbaan” is more about the impact of extremism. The twin towers of the World Trade Centre were attacked in 2001. Today, the reality of terrorism has changed. “Qurbaan” will reflect that reality.

The movie is being produced by Karan Johar and the producer who has been getting bolder and bolder with every successive film, has introduced a love-making scene between the real-life and reel-life couple in the film. Kareena and Saif, who play a married couple, are shown in an intimate love-making scene in the film, which the director insists is critical to the story plot. He is, however, aware of audience perceptions and is afraid that the love-making scene will over shadow the strong message that the film Is intended to deliver. He says,

The love-making sequence, though absolutely essential to the film is explicit and honest enough to become a focal point of interest for the audience. There’s enough sexual repression in our country. A section of the audience might decide to see the film only to see the real-life couple making love on screen. It would be tragic.

Responding to questions on how difficult it was to have the scene shot among the rest of the crew, he defensively answered,

The set had been cleared of the entire crew except the director and cameraman. “It was not an easy sequence to shoot. Kareena and Saif were thorough professionals and were able to do the difficult scene so smoothly because of their comfort level. It was an aesthetic experience. And I hope the audience treats it that way.

Kareena kapoor has reportedly requested the director to delete the love-making sequence as she is conscious about her image with the release of the scene and the film. The director, however, maintains that the sequence is integral to the development of the plot of the film.

Jackie Shroff represents the quintessential Indian man, who, sporting a neat moochie had gone on to win the Mr. Universe title and marks an era of sophistication and elegance in the Indian man. His moustache was the subject of much concern in the beloved kids movie ‘King Uncle’ where he essays the title role.

Anil Kapoor, good-humouredly named as ‘balakalakaar’ recently on a reality television show, has always been famous for all the hair he hates to shave. His moustache, of course, is as famous as his chest hair and is thankfully, seen more often than the latter. Lisa Ray diagnosed with rare form of Cancer

Canada born model-turned-actor Lisa ray has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer Multiple Myeloma according to an entry on her wordpress blog posted recently. The model, born to a Bengali father and a Polish mother was diagnosed as being inflicted with the early stages of this deadly disease which affects the white blood cells on the 23^rd of June this year. Lisa had decided to undergo a thorough medical examination when she had begun to experience severe symptoms of fatigue and exhaustion in the past few months. According to an entry posted on her blog recently, she has stated,

'I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on June 23^rd and started my treatment on July 2^nd…not long ago. For me, it was a relief to hear what was wrong. The plasma cells in my bone marrow were rampaging, multiplying, squeezing out the red blood cells and it was time to begin doing something about it. You just know when something is kosher with your body.'

In the event of this sudden heart-wrenching news confronting Lisa in the face unexpectedly, the actor shows immense courage in stating that will not let the disease upset her life and that she will carry on with her normal routine as usual. She has also insisted that she believes that the disease is curable. She states further on her blog,

'When I got the news, I didn’t react and didn’t cry. I am an actress, believe me, I can be dramatic. I believe it can be cured. That’s the dirty realist in me.'

Having been inflicted with his rare form of disease she is, however upset about the fact that most people do not know what the symptoms of this disease are in order to facilitate the early diagnosis of the disease. She has thus, vowed to step up efforts to increase awareness on this form of cancer.

Lisa ray had started off her modeling career in the mainstream with the Bombay dyeing towel ads. She had then been a part of many ad campaigns before getting her second major break from garden Sarees, the television advertisements of which she still graces. Lisa has also won critical appreciation and acclaim for her performance of a young widow in Deepa Mehta’s Oscar-nominated production ‘Water’ Lisa has also voted as the most beautiful woman on this planet on account of her mixed breed looks.

The sad news of cancer having inflicted Lisa, has taken many of her fans, however by surprise. Good news, however, for Lisa and her fans is that the disease is curable in the initial stages of the malignancy. The dirty realist in Lisa might just be right!

Amitabh Bachchan to host Bigg Brother Season 3 on Colors

Big B Amitabh Bachchan will be playing host for another namesake Big B. The hit television reality show Bigg Boss, which is inspired from the UK based Big Brother, has reportedly signed in the biggest stalwart of Bollywood to host its upcoming season. The television show is based on a psychological experiment wherein selected celebrities from various industries and walks of life are brought together under the same roof to spend a month in isolation from the world under the supervision of a facilitator. The inhabitants of the house, who are not provided access to any forms or media of entertainment, often refer to the anonymous facilitator lovingly as the Big B. This time, the show producers decided to give the facilitator a face and what better face to give than the Big B himself.

However, it turns out that the intention really was to have Big B be a part of the show first and the role that he would play was decided later. In the words of the producers,

Bigg Boss last season was hugely popular. This time we wanted to make it more broadbased and pan-India so it appeals to people from the ages 4 to 64. Once we decided on Amitabh Bachchan, we worked out the pop-philosopher role for him.

As the pop-philosopher, Bada Bachchan will be deconstructing the emotions of the participants and playing psychoanalyst to help the viewers and the players figure out why the contestants behaved in the manners that they did, in a dinner-table introspection episode. Through this new human face of the facilitator of the show, the producers wish to take the show to the next level by conveying the essence of the social experiment in a more coherent manner.

Big B, however, is now new to the concept of the small screen. He had hosted the hugely successful Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian franchise of 'Who wants to be a Millionnaire', for two seasons. The first season is still reported to have raked in the highest TRP of any National Indian television show ever. The producers of Bigg Boss wish to emulate the same kind of success through AB this time too. However, unlike the KBC seasons, where AB was seen on Indian television for four days a week, Bigg Boss will require him to shoot only once a week during eliminations.

Big B, media reports insist, is replacing Shilpa Shetty who had hosted last season. The producers disagree, as they say that the role of Amitabh bachchan in the show is going to be much bigger and more complicated than the one that Shilpa had essayed in the last season. Shilpa, too, is not chewing any hard gum. She says,

Amitji will host the next season of BIG BOSS and people want to know how I feel. This piece of news didn't come as a surprise as I was told before by the Creative head of the channel, and I feel happy that they've got him to say yes. I know he will do a fantastic job

Big B's family, however, is not too happy about the Big Bachchan's involvement with the television series, conceivably for reasons of his health. Big B, says on their behalf, nonetheless,

They are happy with whatever makes me happy.

Big B's participation in Bigg Boss, will definitely make his fans very happy for sure.

This girl, who started her career in the glam business at the tender age of 15 with the hit Falguni Pathak video 'meri choonar udd udd jaaye' and had appeared as a child artist in a yesteryear's Complan ad, adorably singing 'I'm a Complan Girl', made her debut with the science-fiction-cum-ghost story Tarzan. While her performance in Tarzan got her the filmfare award for the best debutante, it was her non-glamourous yet highly sensitive role in Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Dor', where she essayed the role of a widow in the narrow-minded Rajasthani society, which brought her critical acclaim and saw her receiving many critics award for the same. Most critics also applauded her feat of having signed up for a artsy role like that during the initial run of her career.

Even though most of her later flicks, mostly in the comic genre, have not been large grossers at the box office, this damsel still has a huge fan following, among the male clan who were heart broken when the dame decided to get married and among the female clan who would kill to know the secret behind her lovely locks. And while people could not get enough of one Takia sister, another, Natasha Takia, decides to woo them with her charms. Natasha Takia, Ayesha Takia- Azmi's younger sister, is all set to make her foray into bolly land soon. She is said to be on the hunt for suitable scripts that would appropriately launch her into the industry. While big sister sought artistic comfort and cared little about commercial success, little sister seems to be more prudent and practical and wishes to play the shots carefully.
