The new Paytm Ad is the
biggest disaster in Ad gag. Not only does their attempt at being funny about
the bald father come across as being tremendously insulting, even their other
ads showcasing the cat’s rectum are in bad humor.

I fail to understand who their target audience
really is, for these advertisements. Anyone over the age of 18 is sure not to
find any good humor in these advertisements. Does it increase brand recall
though? Yes it does. But it also leaves the consumer confused- Is it a mobile
power recharge product or a mobile talktime/data recharge product? The
penetration of mobile payment systems is relatively low in India today, and a
mass media campaign with a high-risk strategy such as this to increase brand
recall, even as they might pan out into the next phase of the campaign
explaining the functionality and usage of the product in a way that the average
consumer can understand, may just not have been the best strategy.
Till the guys sort out their
positioning and humor strategies, I am just including it in my Gag category for
now, coz for now, it’s nothing more than an Ad gone horribly wrong!
